Aim: To demonstrate an awareness of health and safety in a working environment and observe working practices.

What the course will cover:

  • Understanding Health and Safety Procedures - Procedure for reporting accidents and potential hazards, how to respond in two emergency situations, identification and use of emergency equipment.
  • Observe safe working practices - Use of appropriate clothing and equipment for certain tasks, cleanliness and tidiness in work areas, use of appropriate manual handling techniques.

Health and Safety – Identifying Risks and Developing Awareness

OCN Credits 2: Level2

Aim: To understand what is needed to undertake health and safety risk assessments in a business, how to carry them out, make others aware of them and when to review them.

What the course will cover:

  • Risk Assessments - Why risk assessments should be carried out, how to describe hazards, identify areas where a risk assessment is appropriate, information advice and guidance available.
  • Health & Safety Legislation - An awareness of the key Acts and Regulations relevant to workplace health and safety, and legal responsibilities and duties.
  • Awareness - What a risk assessment involves, identification of hazards, necessary precautions, making individuals aware of their health & safety responsibilities.
  • Review - Controlling health and safety through review of risk assessments.

Health and Safety -Dealing With Risks and Hazards

OCN Credits 2: Level 3

Aim: To be able to carry out risk assessments for a business, how they should be recorded and communicated to others and how and when they need to be reviewed.

What the course will cover:

  • Risk Assessment and Hazard Evaluation - The reasons for carrying out risk assessments, legal responsibilities and requirements, different methods of hazard identification, assessing the potential of a hazard to cause harm, methods of elimination or controlling hazards in line with legal requirements and relevant industry standards.
  • Records and information - Recording hazards and control measures that meet legal requirements, identifying individual responsibilities. Maintenance and upkeep of records to ensure effective control measures are in place.
  • Review - Changes in the workplace that may need to re assessment of risk. How, when and why such a review should take place
