Aim: To identify the main legislative aspects affecting the operation of a business.
It covers a business’ legal obligations in respect of:
- Health & Safety at work – drafting a health and safety plan.
- Consumer rights.
- Method of trading.
- Researching sources of legal information in response to specific business needs.
- The wider aspects of law as they affect a business’ operations.
The criteria for level 3 develops from the above, as follows:
- Preparation of a Health and Safety Policy.
- Devising a Customer Care procedure.
- Insurance and risk management.
- The main legal obligations associated with a particular method of trading.

The aim of this course is to develop your knowledge of the impact of employment law on the recruitment, training and development of those involved in a business.
How Will I Benefit?
The course is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of UK employment law and to identify differences in certain personnel practices between the UK and a number of other European states. It is more concerned with the practical impact of employment law rather than the precise details of the legislation.
Course Structure:
There are six modules in the course, as follows:
Health and Safety Legislation:
The impact of health and safety legislation on an organisation and examples of the responsibilities of the employer and the employee.
The Employment Contract.
How legislation affects the main elements of the contract of employment between employer and employee.
Termination of Employment.
How legislation affects the manner in which a contract of employment ends.
Equal Opportunities
An explanation of how equal opportunities law affects an organisation's practices in relation to sex, age, racial discrimination and other related areas.
Record Keeping
This covers the importance of keeping personnel records in order to satisfy the requirements of the relevant legislation.
Comparison of UK and European Personnel Practices
An outline of some of the differences between personnel practices in the UK and certain other European states.
What Will I Achieve?
Successful completion of this course will qualify you for an National Open College Network Certificate. You will receive three credits at level 2. This is a UK nationally recognised qualification. and demonstrates to others your competence in this area.
